North Island is a
wonderful add-on to a safari itinerary and we suggest spending at least 4 nights
in this tropical paradise.
Some 30km from the main island of Mahé, Ile du Nord, or North Island,
comprises 210 hectares and is cradled between three granite outcrops with a
tropical interior of coconut palms and takamaka trees.
North Island Lodge
is a place of barefoot luxury for those seeking an unspoilt, spectacular
tropical retreat. It is one of the inner islands of the Seychelles archipelago,
often referred to as the most beautiful on earth. There are only 11 guest villas
on the entire island, each constructed to create a sensorial experience in
surroundings of understated elegance. The structures at North Island have been
individually handcrafted to give a unique atmosphere and distinct flavor of the
Seychelles. All the villas are built directly on the eastern beach a few steps
away from the powder-soft sand. A lounge, dining room and library, scenically
located health spa and gym, world-class dive center, and a rim-flow swimming
pool are built into a granitic outcrop. A sunset bar and restaurant are tucked
away on the western beach of the island. Activities include mountain biking,
gym, guided walks, snorkeling, fishing, boating, sea kayaking and scuba diving.
North Island is an example of an ecologically sensitive utilization of a
precious natural treasure. It is a sanctuary where natural habitats have been
rehabilitated and critically endangered Seychelles fauna and flora reintroduced.
North Island’s ‘Noah’s Ark’ environmental rehabilitation project continues to
gain recognition, with North Island being included in the first annual Blue List
of the Top 100 Best Examples of Responsible Tourism. The Blue List is a new
global award system for eco-conscious travelers and celebrates 100 of the
greatest sustainable tourism successes. This destination has created a signature
style combining natural beauty and luxury. Not surprisingly 2006 Condé Nast
Traveler Readers Awards voted it the 'No 1 in the World - Best of the Best'.
