"Mozambique is emerging as one
of Africa's most pristine tourism areas using a high-end low-impact model"
(Condé Nast Traveler Dec 07). Mozambicans are putting their
troubled past behind them and rebuilding their country at a remarkable rate. The
country offers colorful local culture, World Heritage sites, funky colonial
architecture and an endless pristine, palm-fringed coastline washed by the warm
waters of the Indian Ocean. It is a favorite destination for divers from around
the world, especially since it is not over crowded by tourists. Mozambique is
bordered by South Africa and Swaziland to the south, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi
to the west and by Tanzania to the north. Unfortunately most of the designated
wilderness areas are remote for both tourists and the average traveler. Wildlife
numbers were drastically reduced during the civil war. The people of Mozambique
are warm, welcoming and friendly, and are working extremely hard to regain the
number of visitors they once had.
