~mozambique sample itinerary~

Mozambique is the ideal add-on to a safari itinerary in Southern Africa. There are numerous hotels, lodges and resorts to choose from including:

BAZARUTO ISLAND - 4 nights/5 days

Indigo Bay Resort is one of the last unspoiled reminders of true island paradise. It offers the solitude of white sandy beaches, soaring sand dunes, deep lakes and exuberant bird life. In addition, the coastline is home to the largest fringing reef on earth, five of the world’s seven marine turtles and the world’s largest roseate terns. Dozens of mammals are found in these waters, including the extremely rare dugongs (sea cows related to the manatee) and several species of whales and dolphins. The luxurious resort has a tranquil setting with breathtaking views overlooking the warm blue waters of the Indian Ocean. Activities include island walks, horse back riding, islands drives to explore this intricate eco system and a host of water sports such as diving, snorkeling and sailing.

Azura Lodge lies within a National Park. Deserted white beaches, turquoise seas, swaying palms, wonderful Mozambican cuisine and friendly service add up to the perfect undiscovered island getaway. Azura is the country’s first luxury 'eco' boutique retreat. Built entirely by hand by the local community and operated in partnership with them, it has just 15 villas, each with their own infinity pool. The villas, with traditional artwork beneath a thatched jekka roof, blend modern chic with traditional Mozambique. Each is just footsteps from the beach, yet designed with seclusion in mind. Dine on your deck, or sip champagne in your beachside sala as the sun goes down. You will have a dedicated Mozambican host to look after you during your stay. Activities include scuba diving, snorkeling, stargazing, spa treatments, walks, picnics, dhow cruises and island drives.

Benguerra Lodge, a unique and incomparable African island paradise, is small and intimate and offers genuine hospitality, personalized service and an intimate knowledge of the natural environment. It has a rich East African/Arabic feel in both the décor and the unique and delectable food. The rooms all merge naturally into the surrounding forest and are only moments from the gorgeous silver-white beach of Benguerra Bay. Benguerra is passionate about conservation and dedicated to the involvement of the local community in conserving this idyllic corner of the world. This is barefoot luxury at its best! There’s much to discover on and around the island. On foot or in open land rovers, the choice of how you explore Benguerra Island is entirely up to you. Activities include diving, snorkeling, dhow cruises, castaway picnics, bird watching, cultural tours around the island, sea kayaking, catamaran day trips, horse riding and star gazing.

Day 1 to 4: Fly to Vilanculous and transfer to your choice of hotel.
Day 5: Transfer to Vilanculous Airport.
