Table Mountain, Cape Town / Ellerman House, Cape Town / Rovos Rail winding through Montagu Pass, Cape Province |
Best of South Africa - 9 nights/10 days
South Africa is a vast country with much to offer, but to squeeze the best of the country into a week or ten days without rushing around we suggest this simple itinerary, combined with a Botswana, Zambian and/or Namibian itinerary. Rovos Rail is a luxurious and relaxing way to enjoy the countryside in two beautifully rebuilt classic trains. There is plenty to do in Cape Town: a tour of the wine estates in Stellenbosch and Paarl, champagne cruise, a visit to Robben Island (UNESCO World Heritage Site) where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned, shopping and dining at the magnificent Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, tour to Cape Point where the two oceans meet, botanical gardens, beautiful beaches, night life ... the list is endless. Accommodation is at any number of fine hotels that we recommend, including the elegant Cape Grace, Ellerman House and Mount Nelson Hotel. The Garden Route is one of the most scenic drives you can experience with sheer fynbos-covered cliffs, beaches, ocean, fauna and flora, and the highest bungee jump off the bridge at Storms River. Overnight in your choice of hotel or bed and breakfast along the way. The Mpumalanga area in the north east of the country is a superb safari destination with many top lodges to choose from. Singita has achieved the title of "Best Lodge in the World" by Condé Nast Traveller (UK and USA) and Travel and Leisure Magazine. It also took top honors as "Best Small Hotel and Resort in the World" in Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report. Tatler Magazine named Singita Lebombo "Best Hotel in the World." in 2004. Sabi Sabi's Earth Lodge is designed like no other with breathtaking architecture, décor and innovative use of fabrics, light and space. It has thirteen exclusive luxury suites and is voted by Condé Nast Traveler USA as one of the world's top 52 hot spots. Mala Mala Game Reserve is honored as one of the Top Ten Hotels worldwide on Fodor’s Choice 2006 list. These lodges are truly the best of the best with superb game viewing in open vehicles, fine dining, exceptional service and accommodation second to none.
Day 1 and 2: Travel from Pretoria to Cape Town on Rovos Rail.
Day 3 and 4: Various guided tours within the greater Cape Town area or time at
leisure.
Day 5 and 6: Drive from Cape Town to George along the Garden Route.
Day 7, 8 and 9: Fly to a private game reserve of your choice, Mpumalanga via Johannesburg.
Day 10: Return to Johannesburg.
Rates available on request and dependant on duration of stay, type of accommodation, etc.
